Sexual Reproductive Health to
Young People- MAKINIKA
Description of the Project
White Orange Youth MAKINIKA Program is a youth program of 11- 14 years old, 15years- 24years, equipping them with life skills, sexual reproductive health and right-based knowledge. The program is implemented in both in school and out of school settings in Moshi Municipal and Rural districts in Kilimanjaro.
The aim of the project is to decrease further spread of HIV/AIDS among young people.
Objectives
The goal is to empower young people with knowledge and skills so that they may make informed choices when they have to make a decision in their life.
Specifically, the objective is to increase peer educators among young people so that they can reach their fellows.
Activities
In-School Program
Young people who have either left school or are in a higher stage of school go through an intensive 5-7 day training (length depends on funding), during which they are taught to teach their peers about the following:
-
HIV/AIDS Prevention
-
Life skills
-
Overcoming peer pressure
-
Relationship Skills
-
Reproductive Health
-
STDs
-
Puberty
-
Drug abuse
After this, it is the young people themselves (trained peer educators) that actually go into the schools and do after school 1 – 1.5 hour workshops with the students.
Out-Of-School Program
This program has similar content to the in-school program, but is delivered in a way relevant to the needs and age group we are working with.
